Bridal portraits were a new concept to me when I went to my first southern wedding. Being from the east coast/midwest, it just wasn’t really a thing! I’m excited to share with you 3 reasons you need bridal portraits!

But, I was instantly jealous, because, who wouldn’t want to get dolled up twice?! It sounded like a fun idea at the time and now that I get to be the one taking the photos, I’m a huge advocate for making some time in your schedule to do your bridals.

Keep reading for my Top 3 reasons I think you should schedule your bridals ASAP!

And a quick side note, how beautiful is Julia?! We took her bridal portraits at The Sekrit Theater in Austin, TX. It’s one of my favorite venues in the area because there are so many amazing spaces and the light always seems to be just perfect.

Ok, back to our Top 3!

It’s a true run through. Get your hair done, your nails done, your make up done. Your dress will have been altered and you can figure out what you need underneath it.

Bring all your accessories. Not sure which necklace you want to wear? Bring both and see which one you like in photos more!

Try walking in your shoes and see if you want to add a pair of cute flats to your after the ceremony wedding day attire!

Check with your florist and have them do a bouquet for you. It’s the perfect time to get comfortable with your getting ready routine before your big day.

Trust me, you don’t want to be undecided the day of your wedding or just figuring some of these things out!

I was one of those brides that completely changed my hair the day of my wedding. My poor hair dresser was so annoyed (I’m sorry!!!) because we’d already done a run through and I totally sprang it on her. Don’t be like me!

Your wedding day is busy. There is no way around it. You’re the star and you’ll be pulled in many directions.

I looooovve details.

And your dress, and your jewelry and all those things will absolutely get photographed the day of your wedding. But, it’s so nice to be able to capture them in a setting that enhances your beautiful look.

No rush, no onlookers, no timeline. Just hang out and take photos that are completely focused on you and the choices you’ve made for your wedding.

It’s pretty much a photographers dream so this one is maybe a tad selfish! (Just keeping it real!) During our time together you’ll also be learning how to walk in your dress, what angles you love, etc.

It’s fun. Really! Why have this amazing gown if you only get to wear it once? You should definitely wear it twice!

On your wedding day you might be a little anxious before the ceremony and after you might want to do a few portraits and go hang with your guests. Because the wedding day is for you and your new husband and family. And that’s ok!

Take the time to do your bridals so you can capture all the beautiful details that make up your wedding day look ahead of time!

Bridal Portrait Tips

Make sure you have your dress (altered and ready) about 6 weeks before your wedding day.

For my brides, that is right around when I like to do portraits, if not earlier! This is especially important if you are planning on having a printed portrait at your wedding reception.

Choose a beautiful location. It could be someplace you love, your venue, museums, parks, greenhouses. The possibilities are endless and this is your chance to be creative!

Be sure to set up your appointments for hair, makeup, etc once you’ve pinned down a date with your photographer.

Bring a bridesmaid to help.

Get your engagement ring cleaned.

Then, grab some Starbucks, meet me somewhere gorgeous and enjoy your session as a bride to be!
